Bill's Conversational Musings

Scam Voice Mail

Listen to this voicemail I received today.

I hate these voice messages. I don't usually use the word 'hate' that often. But these people take it to a whole new level. This is the fourth or fifth voice message I received today.

They try to be all scary first by saying it has something to do with your tax filings. They then say you have 24 "working" hours to resolve it before it expires.

But here is where the funny part begins. Once expired, I will be taken under custody by the local "cops." Ha! And, there are four serious allegations pressed on my name at this time.

What saddens me is there are people who will fall for this scam and call the number back. And, now they have a known working number.

With the iPhone, I can block that number but then another one will call tomorrow probably.

Conclusion

This is why I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. If it is important, they will leave a voice message and I will call them back.

But here's the thing: Caller ID can be spoofed so then what do you do?

So, what do you think? Did I miss anything? Is any part unclear?
